Careers at Erchinger

Instruments that have to work in theatre. Built by people who know it.

We manufacture surgical instruments to order — for spine, proctology and general surgery. Whatever ends up in a surgeon's hand has passed through several pairs of hands here first. That is precisely why every single one of them matters.

Two ways in

You already know your trade. Or you want to learn it.

Both are welcome here. That is why our careers section is split into two areas, each with its own content, its own contacts and an application route that suits it.

Currently advertised

These are the roles we are recruiting for.

Every position has its own page with the full description — responsibilities, requirements, working pattern and your named contact. No PDF, no login, no detours.

A note on language: production, documentation and day-to-day coordination here run in German, and our quality records have to be written in German. Good German is therefore a genuine requirement for every role listed above — including the ones described on these English pages.
What we offer

Everything you want to know before you apply.

No platitudes about "exciting challenges". This is the list people actually compare — and it is the list that genuinely applies here.

30 days' holiday

Six full weeks a year — well above the statutory minimum, and not staggered by length of service.

Flexible working hours

Flexitime rather than clock-watching. A medical appointment, the nursery run or a tradesman at home can be arranged within the team.

Company pension scheme

We contribute to your pension — in addition to capital-forming benefits.

Tax-free fuel vouchers

A monthly benefit in kind that reaches you net — noticeable if you commute in from the surrounding area.

Training & development

From machine training to quality management qualifications: if you want to progress, you get the time and the budget for it.

Water, coffee & fruit

Free at work. It sounds small, but it is exactly the kind of thing you notice every single day.

Short lines, small company

No corporate chain of command. If you have an idea, you talk to the person who decides — often in the same building.

Purpose you can see

What you make ends up in an operating theatre. That is not a marketing line — it is the reason behind every tolerance we specify.

On pay: we deliberately do not publish a figure, because it says little without knowing your profile. We are happy to tell you the starting range for a specific role before your first interview — simply ask Sabine von Döllen directly.

Application process

Four steps. No recruitment-portal odyssey.

We are a mid-sized company — your application does not disappear into an anonymous system, it goes to the person you will actually meet.

01

Send your documents

A CV and certificates are enough. Use the form, email bewerbung@erchinger.de — or simply call and we will work out whether it fits before you write anything.

⏱ about 5 minutes
02

Our response

You get confirmation of receipt and then a real answer — including when it is a no. Silence is not a process we use.

⏱ usually within days
03

Meeting us in person

An interview in Tuttlingen, with a walk through manufacturing and assembly. You see your future workplace before you decide, not after.

⏱ about 1.5 hours
04

Decision & start

Contract, start date, induction plan. On your first day someone has time for you — and you know in advance who that is.

⏱ start by arrangement
The short route

An application in under five minutes — no covering letter needed.

For production roles and apprenticeships, a CV and certificates will do. And if you would rather talk than fill in a form, call us. That is explicitly welcome.

Your contact

You are not applying to a mailbox.

Every application comes together with one person — from your first question to your contract. You are welcome to call at any point, even before you start putting documents together.

Before you apply

What candidates ask us most often.

How does the application process work?

In four steps: send your documents — receive our response — a personal interview in Tuttlingen including a walk through production — decision and contract. Your application goes straight to Sabine von Döllen, not into an anonymous applicant tracking system.

Do I need a covering letter?

No. For production roles and apprenticeships, a CV and certificates are enough. We are glad to read a covering letter, but it is not what decides whether we invite you. If you would rather call than write, please do.

Do I need to speak German?

Yes. Production, documentation and everyday coordination all run in German, and our quality records have to be written in German. Good German is a genuine requirement for every position. English helps in customer contact, but it does not replace German.

Can I see the company beforehand?

Yes. We are happy to show you manufacturing and assembly. School students can arrange work experience and see for themselves what surgical instrument making actually involves — the most honest way to get to know the trade.

Why is no salary published?

Because a figure says little without your profile: experience, qualifications and the scope of the role all make a difference. We will happily tell you the starting range for a given position before your first interview if you ask — and you are welcome to.

I am not from the region. Is relocating worth it?

Do the maths: advertised rents in Tuttlingen are around 32 % below Stuttgart, and buying a house costs roughly half as much per square metre. At the same time around 400 medical technology companies are based in the district — the industry's labour market is denser here than almost anywhere else.

Do you consider career changers?

In manufacturing and surface finishing, yes. What matters is steady hands, care and a willingness to be trained. Quality management is different: there we need a professional foundation, because regulatory requirements sit behind the role.

Nothing suitable is advertised at the moment.

Then apply speculatively. Even when we have no vacancy matching your profile, we remain interested in motivated people — a good share of our hires start exactly this way.

Your next step

Precision is not made by machines. It is made by people.

Have a look at the open positions, read about the apprenticeships — or simply call and ask whatever you want to know.
